What is wrong with Georgia?
Failing to prosecute murderers and then opening too early during COVID-19
Something’s rotten in the state of Georgia and it’s not their peaches. From prosecutors and police failing to properly investigate and present the killing of Ahmaud Arbery. To rushing the re-opening of their economy. Georgia systemically seems to devalue the sanctity of human life.
According to US News and World Report, when compared to other states, it ranks in the top 10 for Infrastructure, Economy, and Fiscal Stability, but ranks in the 30s for Healthcare, Education, and Crime and Corrections. Factoring these statistics, their handling of the Arbery death and COVID-19 make sense. When you’re busy focusing on buildings and budgets, and neglecting people and justice, you have misplaced priorities.
While you can’t judge an entire state based on the actions of a few individuals, you can look at collective choices that lead a society to where it is today. Despite housing the world’s busiest airport in Atlanta and hosting companies like Coca Cola and top tier universities like Emory, Georgia as a whole is leaving many people behind.
